A Wildcard Chance in the World Superbike Championship at Assen

Twan Smits preparing for his World Superbike wildcard at Assen

Twan Smits will make an appearance in the World Superbike Championship this season. During the Pirelli Dutch Round at TT Circuit Assen, he has been given a wildcard entry in the WorldSBK class, riding a Yamaha R1 prepared to World Superbike specification.

The wildcard is a chance to test himself against the world's best Superbike riders on home soil, on a track he knows well from his national and international outings. It is also valuable preparation ahead of the rest of his season in the EURO MOTO Superbike championship and the FIM Endurance World Championship.

"It's incredibly special to start at Assen on a wildcard in the World Championship," says Twan. "Racing against the very best in the world, at a circuit that means so much to me, is a huge opportunity. I want to use the weekend to learn as much as possible and show what I can do."

The Pirelli Dutch Round takes place at TT Circuit Assen, with Free Practice, Superpole and two WorldSBK races on the programme alongside the Superpole race.
